Custodial Operations Manager

 

HMP Dovegate

 

Salary: £30,306 – £38,257 (Permanent, Full-time, 40 Hrs)

 

Here at Serco, we are looking for an experienced Custodial Operations Manager to join our team at HMP Dovegate. You will provide line management to staff in specific areas of the establishment. This includes responsibility for the management of staff, overseeing the management of prisoners, and coordinating and monitoring of the operations of all areas within the prison. The role is also critical in leading staff by example to ensure all prisoners are treated respectfully and humanely whilst ensuring that staff are fully aware of their accountabilities in delivering a safe, secure and rehabilitative environment.

 

As Manager you are responsible for driving Serco’s Governing Principles, ensuring that your area of managerial responsibility functions efficiently and effectively, operating within the bounds of all local and national orders, rules and regulations and expectations that members of the public would have of yourself and Serco. Key accountabilities include:

 

Prisoner Management:

 

  • Assist the Head of Function (AD) in developing and delivering the offender management unit
  • Ensure that all staff supervise, manage and control prisoners decently, lawfully, safely and securely when carrying out all activities
  • Promote Serco and NOMS policy in all activities and behavior by promoting diversity, decency, safety and reducing re-offending agendas
  • Work collaboratively with other Managers, both within the prison and the wider Custodial estate
  • Responsible for incident management documentation and logging onto the Incident Reporting System (IRS)
  • Ensure actions arising from Standard Audit, Her Majesty Inspectorate of Prisons (HMIP) Action Plans, Managing Quality of Prison Life (MQPL) surveys including Local Self Audit Action Plans and Resettlement strategies are delivered
  • Plan the staff rota/self rostering and work actively to plan and manage delivery of the regime

What you will need to do the role:

 

In order to carry out this role successfully, you must have a minimum of 2 years relevant custodial experience. It is also essential that you have previous Line Management or People Management experience. You will also have:

 

  • Up to date knowledge of all mandatory custodial training requirements.
  • Good level of computer skills including knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook applications.
  • Demonstrated sound leadership qualities including motivation and ability to lead by example.
  • Alignment with Serco's Governing Principles and commitment to the highest standards of service delivery.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the operational process’ and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Have a good understanding of conflict resolution & de-escalation and also management of risk and conflict.
