Salary: £24969.60 per annum, plus Serco benefits

Working hours: Full Time, 40 hours per week, 4-day week

This is a fantastic chef role, predominately a 4-day week with some weekend working (days off in week), flexible options are possible, you will have a fantastic work/life balance giving you plenty of time off to enjoy with friends and family

The chefs within HMP Dovegate are integral to the whole establishment, you will assist the Catering Manager and Chef Supervisor in the delivery of catering services. You will help provide varied and healthy menus to residents and staff including normal day to day meals, special diets, special events and religious events.

This is an exciting and varied chef role with part supervision of prisoners and part hands on- best of both worlds!! You will have great opportunities to become involved in teaching and gaining qualifications and benefit from the excellent benefits and annual leave on offer.

What you need to do the job

In order to carry out this role successfully, you must have good interpersonal & communication skills both written and verbally, as well as the ability to think quickly and react to different situations. You will have good recent, hands-on working experience as a Chef in a large catering operation (500+) or a similar custodial environment with experience supervising staff or workers and be physically capable of working a 10-hour shift in a busy demanding kitchen. You will also have the following qualifications:

  • Literacy and Numeracy Level 2 or equivalent GCSE.
  • City & Guilds 706/1 & 2 or equivalent NVQ or similar in Food Preparation and Production

Some prior knowledge of food safety is required, and you will be expected to complete the following training as part of your induction process:

  • Food Safety Level 3
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Level 3
  • Allergen Control within Catering Level 2

A key part of this role is to be able to demonstrate resilience, with a basic understanding of both conflict resolution & de-escalation and risk & conflict management.
