Training Administrator

HMP Thameside, London

Full-Time, Permanent

Salary £20,000 plus benefits & London Weighting


Serco currently has an exciting opportunity for a Training Administrator to join the team at HMP Thameside based in London. This is a very challenging and demanding role where you will get the opportunity to assist the Training Lead in the facilitation processes for the provision of training to all staff within the contract and other contracts where required.


You will be on hand to maintain accurate training records for all staff and support the training team in providing statistical information and you will also play a key part in assisting to arrange ongoing annual refresher training where you will support the Training Lead in compiling an annual training plan which will be integrated into the national training plan for Custodial Training Services.


Our training department is a fundamental part of the business which requires continued support to maintain all of the necessary training needed to manage the prison effectively. You will assist the training team to facilitate the smooth and effective delivery of all training within the contract including Initial Training Courses (ITC’s) for Officers and Operational Support Induction Programmes for support staff and external agencies.



As part of this you’ll:

  • Book training courses externally, maintaining a rolling training tracker of booked training, including the booking of hotels, cars and other transportation where required and capture all internal and external training costs including travel & subsistence and other associated costs as part of the rolling training tracker.
  • Your performance /objectives will be completed by the Training Lead as part of the MyCatchUp staff development process which forms part of their responsibilities under training and in conjunction with the Senior Learning & Development Business Partner.
  • Maintain and update all training programmes and materials in line with changes both to the contractual elements of the programme and legislative updates where required.
  • Ensure the accurate and auditable training records are kept and maintained in line with national requirements both locally and on the Serco Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Ensure all evaluation documentation is collated, analysed and recorded after all courses.
  • Request Purchase Orders for training providers and where appropriate making use of limit orders for multiple bookings with a provider.
  • Support the Training Lead in assisting staff members in recouping any expenses incurred attending training which are not covered by the ‘billback’ process.




What you’ll need to do the role

First and foremost, you must have a relevant Business Administration qualification to Level 3 or attend the Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship program run by the Serco Apprenticeship Team. You need to possess excellent computing skills including the use of Word processing, Excel Spreadsheets, databases and specialist data storage and reporting platforms.


The successful applicant will be a positive team player, someone that can work on their own initiative, work to ever changing tight deadlines,  and demonstrate being proactive, efficient and reliable. We are looking for someone that can communicate at all levels, build strong working relationships and be a successful part of an ever-growing team.
