Operational Support Officer

HMP Thameside, London

Full-Time, Permanent

Salary £18,360 plus benefits & London Weighting

 

Here at Serco we’re looking for an Operational Support Officer to join us at HMP Thameside based in London. This is a fantastic position for anyone looking to develop a career within the prison service giving you ample opportunity to expand on your current skill set and learn how to deal with the challenges you will face within a prison environment.

 

Your main duties will include reporting to your Manager with any issues which may undermine security, as well as the safety security of all staff, visitors and prisoners. You will be searching and escorting contractors, visitors, prisoners and vehicles within the establishment, ensuring all processes are followed accurately and in a timely manner.

 

 

As part of this you’ll:

  • Work as required in any area of the prison as directed, which will require you to work as part of a team and at times on your own.
  • Searching prisoner’s property and conducting rub down searches of prisoners
  • Administrative/Clerical work utilising IT Systems including incident reporting
  • Driving/navigating vehicles on Escort Duties
  • Security & self-harm prevention
  • Maintain cleanliness/hygiene standards in Residential/Work areas

 

 

What you’ll need to do the role

First and foremost, you’ll need to be proficient using all Microsoft applications and ideally have experience working in a custodial setting, this is advantageous but not essential as full training will be given. You need to be able to multi-task and make sound judgements on a number of matters but be an enthusiastic and valuable team member.

 

The successful applicant will be polite, punctual, courteous, approachable, able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism and confidentiality at all times. We are looking for someone that can communicate at all levels, build strong working relationships and be a successful part of an ever-growing team.
