Great Western Hospital, Swindon

 

Full time – 37.5 hours per week. Mon-Fri 0730 – 1900 hours.  On call weekend rota.

 

Salary - £30,000 - £32,000 depending on experience basic plus Serco benefits.

 

Main Purpose:

 

To provide safe and efficient maintenance of the electrical services and equipment within the hospital as directed by Estates Supervisors and Management

 

Main Accountabilities: 

 

  • To carry out reactive repairs, fault finding, servicing commissioning and maintenance to a wide range of Services, Plant and Equipment i.e. UPS, LV Switch frames, HV Network and other equipment within all areas of the Hospital as directed by Supervisors or Managers.
  • Plan and schedule major interruptions, maintenance activities, co-ordinate work of contractors.
  • Provide detailed impact assessments and risks for significant shutdowns and operations to the Management Team for consideration and sharing with key stakeholders.
  • Analysis and diagnosis of faults in complex, multi-faceted equipment.
  • To carry out Planned Preventive Maintenance to a wide range of Plant and Equipment.
  • To work in accordance with all relevant Serco Policies & Procedures, Workplace Regulations and Best Practice Guidelines.
  • To take a proactive approach to the development and review of Health & Safety systems, work instructions and working practices.
  • To work in a safe and responsible manner with full regard for own and other’s safety at all times.
  • Be prepared to develop and mentor others within the team.
  • Be prepared to train and develop Apprentices and Trainees as appropriate and directed.
  • To attend work in compliance with the Computerised Time & Attendance System.
  • To use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
  • To be prepared to attend work or work beyond expected finishing time in exceptional circumstances, as requested by Supervisors or Managers.
  • Communicate to Supervisors or Managers unrepaired faults or defects or requirements for Spare Parts.
  • To attend on-site and off-site training as required.
  • To be aware of how the Technician Role influences Serco’s GWH Contract.
  • Contract and the wider company objectives.
  • Be prepared to take on Authorised Person Duties which could include but not limited to High Voltage, Low Voltage, Lifts, Confined spaces (All training will be provided) .
  • Requirement to work shifts covering Monday - Sunday to cover on site operational hours of 7:00 – 19:00.
  • Be part of an on-call rota from 19:00 – 07:00.

 

 

What you will need for the role:

 

  • Level 3 NVQ · 18th Edition BS7671
  • Portable Appliance Testing
  • Electrical to Mechanical Conversion - preferable
  • BS 2391 / 2 Electrical inspection & Testing - preferable
  • Member of appropriate technical body
  • HTM 06 02 LV AP Training (or JSP eqv.) – desirable
  • HTM 06 03 HV AP Training (or JSP eqv.) – desirable
  • Proven experience of working in a similar environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of Electrical Building Services
  • Good communication and customer service skills
