Media Manager

HMP Lowdham Grange, Nottinghamshire

Full-Time/ Permanent

Salary up to £37,000 DOE + Benefits



Here at Serco we’re looking for a Media Manager to join us at HMP Lowdham Grange based in Nottinghamshire. The postholder will be responsible for managing the Inside Media department at the prison which will involve providing comprehensive media and communication programs for prisoners and staff. You will lead, teach and supervise prisoners in a full and varied programme of digital work and training activities to meet the needs and interests of the total prisoner population.


You will be required to develop, administer and deliver all aspects of the media provision in keeping with work and training targets set by the Head of Learning and Skills. The Media Manager will assist the Head of Learning & Skills in the delivery of a media-based work and training provision which increases employability, reduces the likelihood of re-offending and prepares prisoners for a successful return to the community.


One of the main focuses will be to secure, manage and maintain contracts with other prisons to deliver the “It’s StoryTime” programme” in those establishments. This includes bid-writing, marketing, invoicing and providing accounting information.



As part of this you’ll:

  • Ensure that all staff supervise, manage and encourage prisoners decently, lawfully, safely and securely when carrying out all activities.
  • Ensure prisoners are searched on entry/exit and ensure all staff adhere to tool & material control protocols in accordance with the requirements of the Serco Custodial Security Strategy (SCSS) and periodically carry out Management checks as required.
  • Adhere to Health & Safety Legislations, ensuring Safe Systems of Work and Risk Assessments are completed, remain current and that any faults are reported promptly.
  • Ensure staff complete appropriate Intelligence Reports (IR) for any observations of concern, complete post incident Management enquiries/ reports and carry out Investigations when commissioned to do so.
  • Attend and actively contribute to the Reducing Re-Offending Meeting, the Education Quality Improvement Group (QIG), the Work Allocation Board and all other relevant Boards/Meetings as directed by the Head of Learning & Skills.
  • Complete My Catch Up’s for all team members and monitor achievement of outcomes as well as developing Action Plans to continually improve team engagement and commitment.
  • Proactively manage absence, timekeeping, grievance and disciplinary of the team with support from MyHR where necessary.



What you’ll need to do the role

First and foremost, you’ll need to have worked in a similar role or gained at least 2-4 years in a Media Production environment. A Level 5 qualification in Media/ Media Production or any Management qualifications would be highly advantageous but not essential. If you can demonstrate being able to collaborate and partner with clients and stakeholders, showcase resilience in a challenging environment and example dealing with previous marketing & bid-writing projects then we want to hear from you.


The successful applicant will be highly computer literate, very confident, have a real creative streak, demonstrate being able to work on their own initiative, efficient and reliable. We are looking for someone that can communicate at all levels, build strong working relationships and be a successful part of an ever-growing team.
