HMP Lowdham Grange, Nottinghamshire

Full-Time/ Permanent

£22,000 per annum + Benefits


Here at Serco we’re looking for an Exams Officer to join us at HMP Lowdham Grange based in Nottinghamshire. You will be joining our well-established Education team onsite, playing a key part in assisting the Education Manager with processing and organising all relevant qualifications. You will be involved in the registration process, statistical analysis and the ordering of exam papers. 

The postholder will possess excellent organisational and administration skills, be proactive when working to tight deadlines and have the ability to work closely with your team to meet business objectives.


As part of this you’ll:

  • Responsible for the development of the examination and administrative function. This covers the identification of prisoner requirements, planning, development and evaluation of quality procedures.
  • Contribution to Self-Assessment reporting procedure and participation in the implementation of HMP Lowdham Granges Quality Assurance Policy.
  • Qualification sourcing and production of education resources.
  • Liaise with External Partnerships (e.g. Castle College and/or other prisons).
  • Develop, deliver and Implement training relating to Quality Issues.
  • Maintain and keep accurate records both manually and on the prison MIS.
  • Manage prisoner queries, notifications of results and the forwarding of prisoner certificates.
  • Administer and invigilate examinations.
  • Mentor new staff and / or placement teachers when required.
  • Keeping full and accurate records on prisoner progress and attainment for the classes/areas for which specific responsibility is held.
  • Observe, implement and develop departmental/prison policies on Equal Opportunities and Health & Safety.
  • Provide initial advice and guidance to prisoners on course content and progression routes.
  • Reflect upon and evaluate personal performance participating in Appraisals and taking personal responsibility for keeping professionally up to date, participating in personal development as appropriate.



What you’ll need to do the role

First and foremost, you’ll need to have worked in a similar role or have a strong admin background, excellent knowledge of all Microsoft applications including word and excel (data analysis) and be able to work in a pressured environment.


The successful applicant will ideally have an NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration as well as an IT qualification which is essential.
