Investigations and Security Officer

Home Based (South West region)

Full time, Permanent, 37.5 hours

Salary £32,500.00 plus company car


Here within Serco Prisoner Escorting and Custody Services (PECS), an opportunity has arisen for an experienced Investigations and Security Officer to join the Business Support function.


As Investigations and Security Officer you will be responsible for the delivery of professional investigations across the PECS contract, reporting your findings in a timely manner, whilst additionally providing advice to managers on all aspects of Investigations and Security. You will support a positive security culture, providing security advice, gathering and analysing intelligence, and ensuring court custody sites and vehicle bases are managing security in accordance with corporate, contractual and regulatory requirements. 


Supporting the Head of Standards and Security in the delivery of the PECS contract, other key duties will include:


  • Investigate cases in line with current Divisional Standard Operating Procedures and HMPPS Prison Service Instructions, becoming an internal expert on matters such as escapes, key security compromises and other security related matters
  • Provide advice and guidance on all aspects of investigations to all operational managers as required
  • Support the provision, implementation and maintenance of comprehensive security policies and systems, driving a positive security culture across the business
  • Ensure business compliance with contractual, regulatory, and corporate security requirements


What you’ll need to do the role


Strong interpersonal skills are required as you will be engaging with numerous members of the PECS contract on a face to face basis. The ability to work in a small team, with flexibility is essential. 


As the PECS contract covers the whole of the South of England, the capability to work away from home, sometimes at short notice, is essential and you must be in possession of a valid UK driving license.


Detailed analytical report writing skills, sometimes under short contractual time limits.


A formal investigation qualification, to be working towards a relevant investigation training qualification, or in-depth role experience as an investigator is needed, as well as a clear understanding of the principles of good investigation and the rules of evidence.


Due to the nature of this role all offers of employment are subject to security clearance checks and approval by the Home Office, and satisfactory employment references.
