Operational Support Officer

HMP Ashfield, Bristol

Full-Time/ Permanent

 

Here at Serco we’re looking for an Operational Support Officer to join us at HMP Ashfield based in Bristol. You will report directly to the Public Protection Manager and carry out all duties detailed by them. This will include facilitating prison visits by effectively managing the visitor’s bungalow and visitor entry. You will process and search all visitors into the establishment, process all property handed in by the visitors or handed out to prisoners during each visit.

 

It is essential that all monitoring is logged correctly and the required data from that monitoring be stored safely and securely. You will complete initial risk assessments for new arrivals at the establishment, process applications from prisoners requesting phone contact with family, friends and external agencies in accordance with PSI 49/2011 and assist in the deliverance of performance to achieve any relevant KPT’s.

 

 

As part of this you’ll:

  • Ensure that all monitoring is conducted within the relevant legislation (PSI 49/2011) and that the correct authority is granted to do so before any monitoring takes place.
  • Screen all incoming mail by X-ray (training will be given), dealing with any un-authorised items discovered as per the Local Security Strategy.
  • Liaise with the Police Information Officer and support them in the gathering of evidence.

 

 

What you’ll need to do the role

First and foremost, you’ll ideally have worked in a secure environment or similar, but this is not essential as all training will be provided. It would be advantageous if you have any knowledge on MAPPA procedures or security procedures.

 

The successful applicant will be computer literate, able to work on their own initiative, approachable, efficient and reliable. We are looking for someone that can communicate at all levels, build strong working relationships and be a successful part of an ever-growing team.
