Salary range of £44,000- £49,000 per annum, plus benefits


We have an exciting opportunity to join us in supporting Airbus on the prestigious Skynet 5 communications contract with a 2nd Line Maintenance Engineer position. The role will see the successful candidate providing technical and engineering support to the Satellite Ground Station (SGS) communications infrastructure at Bordon, Hampshire. The successful applicant will be responsible to the SGS Operations Manager and is a permanent position within Serco.  



Main Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance tasks on the installed equipment.
  • Assist with scheduled Operational and Network Support tasks.
  • Undertake the investigation and rectification of system and network faults. This may include diagnosis of equipment to sub-assembly and board level.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of all work.
  • Carry out the installation of Data and RF cables to a high standard.
  • Undertake modification and decommissioning work.
  • Act as subject matter expert for ground station equipment



Keys Skills, Experience and Qualifications


  • GCSE, or Equivalent, to Grade C in Maths, English and a Science based subject.
  • HNC/D in Electronics or equivalent, or a minimum of 5 years’ experience working within the satellite communication or data network industry.
  • Knowledge of, or background in, electronics including IP Network and Radio principles.
  • MS Office Tools.
  • Highly self-motivated with an aptitude to learn new skills.



  • Keen interest in technology and electronics.
  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be able to work as part of a small close-knit team.
  • Capable of manipulating and understanding spreadsheets, databases and software applications.


Holding a UK Government SC clearance is a mandatory requirement for the position. Successful applicants will be expected to achieve this clearance as a condition of appointment into the role.
