This is an exciting career opportunity for you as a Psychologist to join our new, state-of-the art correctional centre with access to the latest technology.  You will thrive on overseeing the provision of assessment and intervention services to address the risks and needs of inmates, supporting their ongoing management and successful reintegration into the community. You will bring an aptitude for leadership and ability in the professional supervision of psychologists.

Our Rehabilitation and Reintegration team provides a range of programs aimed to reduce reoffending and support the successful transition of inmates back into the community.  As a key member of this team and working closely with correctional, industries and health services teams, you will:

  • Develop policies and procedures relating to psychology services offenders
  • Provide regular individual and/or group supervision for Psychologists and Program Delivery Officers
  • Provide direct psychological service delivery where appropriate in complex cases
  • Ensure documentation standards are met, risk intervention is conducted, and negotiate service provisions and appropriate role boundaries for the team.

You will also prepare psychological assessments and reports to relevant boards, services and agencies and assist the relevant managers with the IMP review process.

To help us make a difference, you will need:

  • Minimum four-year accredited qualification in psychology with current provisional or full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
  • Ability to obtain Certificate IV in Correctional Practice-Case Management within the first 12 months of employment
  • Ideally experience working in a Correctional environment delivering the suit of EQUIPS, Real Understanding of Self Help, and Out of the Dark programs (not essential)
  • Experience in assessment and treatment in psychology including mental health issues, cognitive impairment and with respect to behaviour management
  • Experience in advisory and consultation
  • Knowledge and understanding of contemporary correctional concepts, principles and practices relevant to psychology assessment and treatments
  • Knowledge and ability with regards to criminogenic risk assessments, including risks related to sex and violent offending and associated interventions
  • Knowledge and understanding of the psychologist’s ethical and legal obligations and professional accountability
  • Cultural awareness including understanding the impact and management of different ethnic backgrounds, customs and contemporary issues
  • Ability to perform clinical diagnoses and provide expert advice to relevant stakeholders
  • Ability to effectively communicate in both oral and written forms
  • Ability to negotiate and resolve conflict
  • Thorough report writing ability
  • Ability to deliver effective and engaging programs
  • The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour
