Aircraft Training Supervisor

RAF Syerston,

Newark on Trent NG23 5NN (bordering Lincolnshire) Permanent (39 hours per week) 

£32,500 per annum plus benefits  

 

Serco are recruiting for a Aircraft Training Supervisor to join their current team based at Newark.

The Aircraft Training Supervisor will be responsible for classroom and practical instruction on topics within the aircraft discipline and various allied subjects. You will provide support and coaching to our maintenance personnel and aircrew within 2 Flying Training School (2FTS) in order to ensure they are working and operating in accordance with our safety culture and regulations.

You will carry out associated roles and duties as directed by the business needs.

You will be based at RAF Syerston but will be required to satisfy the regular UK-wide mobile requirements of the role.

 

Main Accountabilities: 

  • Lesson preparation ensuring Regulatory and Statutory compliance through competency checks, engineering updates, and maintaining records of all training and authorisations.
  • Conduct all contractually required training including Initial and Continuation training of GMS Engineering Personnel, Central Gliding School (CGS) and nominated Volunteer Gliding Squadron (VGS) aircrew. (Includes working up to one weekend per month and at various locations in the UK).
  • The participation at the Annual VGS Technical Officers’ symposium which includes delivery of briefings and instruction as necessary (one weekend per year).
  • Be capable of carrying out the responsibilities and duties of Certifying Staff in accordance with the relevant regulations, to be able to facilitate training of certifying staff.
  • Assist with itinerary and on site POC for all Work Experience Projects, including apprentices when required.
  • Achieving and maintaining own authorisations and currency.
  • Deputise for the Lead Trainer in their absence.


What you’ll need to do the role: 

  • Be a Qualified Aircraft Airframe and/or Propulsion Mechanic/Technician or a Qualified Aircraft Avionics (Electrical/Avionics) Technician – (City and Guilds Aeronautical Engineering Parts 1 and 2 or NVQ equivalent or higher qualification.
  • Be appropriately experienced and have completed, as a minimum, MOD Phase 2 technical training; or be appropriately experienced and have completed suitable civilian training.
  • Demonstrate having held authority or potential to sign for duplicate inspections (civilian) or independent inspections (military).
  • Experience in delivering training both on an individual basis or in a classroom environment.
  • Adaptable and able to positively support the Training Controller, you will be able to prioritise and plan your own workload and be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Has a minimum of 5-years’ experience in either a Civil aviation or Military aviation environment, in a relevant trade group.
  • Has been employed ‘on-aircraft’, within the last 6-years.
  • Hold full driving licence (Class B -maximum of 6 points).
  • IT literate and able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.
