Do you have a passion for clear, compelling writing? Want to see your words positively impact communities?

Join Serco's Facilities Management (FM) Bidding team as a Bid Writer and articulate detailed information to secure impactful government contracts. Drawing on your strengths in writing and collaborating with colleagues, you’ll be vital in delivering our strategic ambitions. Compiling knowledge and workstreams in a coherent and customer-centric manner for FM bids in the UK, you’ll play a valuable role in effectively communicating our winning propositions and solutions.

As a Bid Writer, you’ll provide professional and high-quality support for bids, large and small. Working closely with the rest of the bidding team, you’ll develop an in-depth understanding of our proposed solutions and produce quality bids that meet our customer’s brief. Producing written responses, storyboards, and other bidding collateral, your work will be compelling and visually engaging, too!

As well as the satisfaction of working on (and of course winning!) contracts that directly impact public service users, you’ll also benefit from an environment that firmly sets the stage for your own career development and progression. Whether you want to specialise, progress upwards into Bid Management or Business Development, or broaden your career into a Sales, Operations, Project Management, Commercial or Solutions role – there will be plenty of opportunities to keep growing! We offer a wide portfolio of career paths, with the right training and development in place so you can keep hitting your goals.

What’s more, if you’re keen to develop in this area, we will be pleased to fund your certification with the Association of Proposal Management Professionals (APMP).

As part of our team, you’ll:

  • Craft high-quality bid proposals for FM bids of various sizes and complexities, both for individual bids and entire portfolios.
  • Collaborate with the bid team to create storyboards and ensure they guide bid creation.
  • Partner with subject matter experts (SMEs) to translate solutions into clear and compelling information for bid responses.
  • Develop winning bid responses: You’ll write well-structured, accurate, concise, and visually engaging content that effectively conveys the message, meets customer requirements (including word count, presentation, and evaluation criteria), and achieves high scores.
  • Conduct additional research to supplement responses, including gathering and presenting relevant data.
  • Incorporate persuasive elements such as win themes, USPs, sales messages, case studies, and insightful commentary on current trends into your writing.
  • Ensure consistent language quality across bids by maintaining a unified terminology, tone, and style throughout submissions.

What you’ll need to do the role:

  • Experience of bid writing to deliver Facilities Management bids.
  • Experience of managing a varied set of deliverables in a complex bidding environment (across different methods of procurement).
  • Ability to write to a very high level (fluency, accuracy, correct messaging)
  • Highly competent in Microsoft Office software with some experience of other tools and applications such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Project, Visio, etc. Skills around template creation and document manipulation would be advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills including relationship development and stakeholder management - you’ll be confident and articulate in all communications.
  • Ability to quickly grasp and assimilate complex information and apply creative intellect.
  • Methodical, process-driven and organised with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritise, particularly in a time-sensitive environment.
