Serco at RAF Brize Norton are looking to recruit an Airfield Support role within their Airfield Support Team working within the Digital Support Flight. You will be helping to assist with airfield support tasks. We are looking for someone ideally with an engineering background along with good mathematical skills.  

Here at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, Serco has been providing multi-activity and engineering support since 1997. RAF Brize Norton is the largest operating base within the Royal Airforce, providing air transport and air-to-air refueling to the RAF fleet, you will contribute enormously to the vital work carried out at this sire.  You will also be part of the wider team, with 5,800 service personnel, 1,200 contractors and 300 civil servants on site.

 

Main Accountabilities: 

  • Control, fault finding and minor rectification of Management Radio Equipment, masts and antennas, including liaison with the Air Battlespace Spectrum Management Team, Air Radio Reserve and associated equipment Delivery Teams.    
  • Station and Dependant Unit frequency management; maintain and update frequency allocations.
  • Air Traffic Management (ATM) Equipment Technical Safeguarding iaw Military Aviation Authority Regulatory Article 3136.  
  • Participation in Siting Board Meetings, including close liaison with the Explosives Safety Representative regards Hazard of Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance. 
  • Electromagnetic Radiation Safety.  
  • Radiation Hazard Safety. 
  • Crash plan communications including cordon communications.
  • ATM Equipment Network faults including Point to Point Services and ATC Direct Dial Voice Telephony Lines.
  • Input into the Airfield Business Continuity Plan(s) including Airfield Recovery Plan.
  • Support the provision of deployable Public Address (PA) systems. 
  • Building Custodian (management) of ATM equipment buildings & facilities.
  • Assisting and collaborating with the Air Cyberspace Services Centre.  

What you’ll need to do the role:

 

  • The ability to interpret Regulation, Policy and Guidance.
  • The ability to successfully implement and apply MoD Legislation, Serco and RAF Brize Norton processes and procedures.
  • The ability to compile succinct Engineering Appraisal/Concession Requests.  
  • Basic electrical equipment fault-finding/rectification skills, including voltage/continuity checks, terminating crimped connections and soldering. 
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations including Gradient (Slope) of a Straight Line expressed as a Ratio. 
  • Educated to GCSE standard (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics and a Science related subject. Desirable, but not essential. 
  • Good written and verbal literacy skills, including the use of all O365 Desktop Applications.
  • Hold a full UK Driving Licence, with less than 6 penalty points, have eyesight colour perception of a standard (CP2) to allow driving on RAF Brize Norton airfield and other offsite locations to complete ATM Equipment site checks.  
  • Capability to complete mandatory 3-week Airfield Support Team training course at RAF Cosford (travel, subsistence & Hotel paid). Other courses typically last one or two weeks.
