Natalie's Story
Leading people to grow, in Psychological Services
Card text
For Natalie Parrett, growth isn’t just a goal — it’s a mindset. As Director of Psychological Services in Serco’s Justice business, she leads a team of qualified and in-training psychologists, and Offending Behaviour Programme staff, all working to make a meaningful impact in custodial settings.
But for Natalie, it’s not just about providing psychological services — it’s about developing people, nurturing talent, and rethinking rehabilitation to create real opportunities for change.

When speaking to potential candidates to join her team, Natalie’s approach is clear: "I’d ask them what they wanted to do in five years, then discuss how we could help achieve that goal. We have so many clinical opportunities. I look for people who feel excited about psychology or psychotherapy and who want to grow.”
This philosophy extends across her leadership style. With five UK adult prisons under Serco’s management, Natalie ensures her team has the flexibility to explore different career paths. Whether it’s working with young adults, engaging in therapeutic communities, or specialising in areas like trauma, violence, or neurodiversity, the focus is on broadening experience and deepening expertise.

A sense of mutual respect and mindfulness permeates our culture-in fact, it’s the key to our success.

Psychology plays a crucial role in shaping what rehabilitation looks like in practice. Through innovative psychological services, Natalie and her team examine what it truly means to create a rehabilitative culture — what it looks like, how it feels, and how best practice can adapt to different sentence lengths and individual needs.
Having transitioned from the public sector, Natalie has found Serco to be a place where psychology thrives. "Psychology is a very important service in Serco, where we can be clinically innovative in what we do," she explains.

“Let’s face it, people don’t train for years and years just to sit at their desks and do the same thing over and over again. We attend conferences, undertake training, offer progression opportunities, and the chance to actively contribute to academic research – so we can make sure we’re always moving forward.”

This innovation isn’t just about clinical practice — it extends to career development. The ability to move between different prison environments allows her team to refine their skills and pursue areas of interest. Looking ahead, Natalie envisions expanding international opportunities, building on the consultative roles Serco has already undertaken abroad.
