Serco achieves Level 3 Advanced Employer accreditation in the Investing in Ethnicity Maturity Matrix 2026
We’re proud to have achieved Level 3 Advanced Employer accreditation in the Investing in Ethnicity Maturity Matrix, recognising progress across our approach to ethnic inclusion.
Creating a workplace where people from different backgrounds can belong, develop and thrive takes more than good intentions. It means understanding where we are today, listening to our people and continuing to look for ways to improve.
In 2026, we completed the Investing in Ethnicity Maturity Matrix for the first time – an undertaking spearheaded by Jaylan Joseph and Tansy Goodman, Co-Chairs of our ethnicity and culture inclusion network, Serco Embrace.
The outcome was Level 3 Advanced Employer. We’re delighted to have achieved this accreditation, and recognise that the most important part of this result is what sits behind it: the work our colleagues are doing to help create a more inclusive workplace.

Progress made by our people
The Maturity Matrix looks at different aspects of an organisation's approach to ethnic diversity and inclusion, including culture, recruitment, development, communications and employee networks.
There are some areas where the assessment shows we’re performing particularly strongly. We scored 73% in Employee Life Cycle (which focuses on representation at the various stages, progression and retention), compared with a 2026 average of 52%, and our Culture and Inclusion score was also above average.
In the Recruitment category, our approach to selection and interview was a stand-out area of strength, scoring 95% compared with an average of 57%. Our employee network communications also scored strongly, at 96% compared with 60% across the cohort.
These results gave us tangible examples of where our approach is working well — while also helping us identify where we can continue to improve.

The role of our employee networks
Our employee networks are an important part of creating connection, belonging and employee voice at Serco. The Investing in Ethnicity Maturity Matrix specifically recognises the role network groups can play in supporting colleagues, building awareness and providing an employee voice.
Our Serco Embrace network is helping to create spaces for colleagues from all backgrounds and cultures to connect, share experiences and contribute to conversations around inclusion.
Network co-chair Jaylan (featured below right) said: “Having seen first-hand the genuine impact of our inclusion work, this recognition reflects real progress at Serco, and I'm excited to keep pushing as we work towards Level 4.”
Fellow co-chair Tansy (below left) added: “Being recognised as a Level 3 employer in our first matrix assessment is testament to the work being done across our organisation for better DEIB [Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging] policies and practices.”

A milestone, not a finish line
Achieving Level 3 Advanced Employer is something we're incredibly proud of, but we know there is more to do.
The Maturity Matrix gives us an external benchmark of where we are today and helps us identify opportunities for further development. The assessment highlights areas where we can continue to strengthen our approach, giving us a clear opportunity to build on the progress we’ve made.
That means this isn't about saying we've got everything right.
It's about recognising the progress we've made, understanding where we can do more and continuing to involve our people in that journey.

As we look ahead, we'll continue working with colleagues, employee networks, inclusion allies and leaders to create an environment where people from all backgrounds can feel included, have opportunities to develop and are able to thrive.
Because creating a better workplace isn't something that simply happens around our people. It's something our people help shape.
