What You'll Do
As a Health and Safety Advisor, you will play a key role in ensuring that service delivery solutions for maintenance, billable works, and general Health and Safety across the Dstl Estate remain compliant with legislation, customer requirements, and industry best practices. You will support preventative planned maintenance, reactive maintenance, and billable works, working closely with teams to maintain a safe and compliant working environment.
You will act as a subject matter expert, providing advice on all Health and Safety, Fire Safety, and Environmental matters within the building environment. Your responsibilities will include carrying out accident and incident investigations, ensuring lessons learned are implemented, and overseeing project activities related to safety, health, and environmental compliance. Maintaining accurate records and ensuring adherence to the Health and Safety at Work Act and environmental legislation will be essential.
Building strong working relationships with client Estates Health and Safety teams and VIVO colleagues will be a key part of your role. You will ensure compliance with billable works governance processes, conduct scheduled and unscheduled inspections, and take appropriate action where safety management is lacking. By encouraging a culture of continuous improvement, you will support sustainability initiatives and promote VIVO’s Zero Harm approach across the contract.
Your ability to confidently present and engage audiences will be crucial when delivering safety training, toolbox talks, inductions, and presenting investigation findings. Effective communication and collaboration with multiple teams, along with the confidence to raise concerns through proper channels, will be essential.
What You'll Bring
To succeed in this role, you must have a NEBOSH Certificate and a full UK driving license.
You should be an approachable and reliable professional with the ability to influence teams and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Experience in delivering SHE training, updating safety management systems, and conducting workplace inspections is required. You must have knowledge of key regulations, including Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER), Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER), Noise at Work Regulations, and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH). The ability to research and apply updates to safety regulations, manage external stakeholder relationships, and support accident investigations is also essential.
This role requires a British national due to site security requirements, and candidates must be at least 18 years old and able to obtain SC clearance.
