Drive Excellence in Fuel Infrastructure for Defence!
Are you a seasoned engineer ready to lead a high-impact fuel inspection programme across Defence infrastructure? Join us as Principal Engineer – Fuels Infrastructure, where you'll be at the forefront of setting fuel safety, inspection, and operational standards in line with MOD requirements. In this role, you'll play a pivotal part in developing long-term strategies, optimising resources, and ensuring excellence in every aspect of fuel infrastructure management across all contract areas.
As Principal Engineer, you will oversee and implement a leading fuel inspection programme, manage and mentor a dedicated Authorising Engineer/Professional Fuel Inspector, and provide expert advice to management teams, employees, and contractors on all aspects of fuel infrastructure. With a focus on maximising efficiency through self-delivery and partnerships, you will also shape a sustainable fuels team and create long-term value for MOD and VIVO, setting a high standard of safety compliance and operational consistency.
In this role, your expertise in fuel infrastructure, MOD standards, and Safety Management Systems will be essential. You will have experience in fuel inspections, legislative compliance, and safety systems of work, with a proactive approach to managing both in-house and contracted delivery of fuel-related activities. Building strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders will be a central part of your role, requiring excellent communication and presentation skills.
You will sign off roughly 150 reports annually and the role will require significant travel throughout England, from Newcastle to the South Coast. Candidates should ideally be located in or near Central England.
What You Need To Do The Job:
In order to be considered for this role, you must hold a BEng, MSc MEng, or be professionally registered as an Incorporated Engineer, with proven experience in fuel infrastructure management. Strong data analysis and report writing skills will be key, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office. Flexibility to travel extensively across contract areas and a full UK driving licence are essential.

In addition to this, for those wishing to develop their career further, there are opportunities for the Principal Engineer to help upskill and train Senior Engineers in the business and to get involved with setting standards within Continuous Professional Development for the engineering teams across VIVO.
