Serco have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Software Engineer to become part of our experienced software engineering team, to support our development and support contracts for equipment we provide to our customers across the UK and Europe.

 

As the Junior Software Engineer, you will report directly to the Software Lead, but on a day-to-day basis will also take direction on the priority of tasks/activities from Programme Managers and Lead Engineers in the business.

 

We are seeking a self-motivated and dedicated individual with a strong drive to succeed and a passion for personal and professional growth.

 

Main accountabilities:

 

  • Assist senior engineers in developing, maintaining, and improving software applications. Including writing code, debugging, testing, and collaborating with the team to ensure high-quality software is delivered on time. 
  • Contribute to the development process by documenting functionalities and participating in code reviews.  Staying up to date with industry trends.

 

What you’ll need to do the role:

 

  • Proficiency in, and a good understanding of, at least one programming language, understanding of data structures and algorithms, and familiarity with version control systems. Training will be provided on the job.
  • Good problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Applicants will be required to undergo security clearance vetting, if not already security cleared to a minimum SC level.  Serco will organise the clearance checks. 

 

Desirable 

 

  • Previous experience of defence and/or aircraft systems development, with their associated documentation and controls, would be advantageous.
