We’re recruiting for an experienced Deputy Director to join our Justice & Immigration team at HMP Thameside.

 

As Deputy Director, you will be responsible for the strategic planning and management of resources in delivering against the objectives set out in the Contract, whilst delivering an efficient and effective operation. You will line manage the Residential, Security/Operations and Offender Management Directorates and have overall responsibility for the effective functional management and performance of these key areas.

 

We are looking for someone to hit the ground running so it is imperative that you have worked at this level in a previous role, preferably in a custodial environment and you will have knowledge of Contract structures and experience of contributing to the processes of strategic and business planning at a high level.

 

Your knowledge of modern business practices, issues and trends, legislative provisions and standards applicable to a commercial environment will support with succeeding in the delivery of accountabilities such as:

 

  • To be a key influencing figure in the Senior Management Team of HMP Thameside; to ensure the Strategic and Business Planning process is maintained and contributed, identify risks and consequences of changing strategies, policies and procedures with regard to the contract and evaluation and assessment of the SWOT analysis.
  • Develop, agree and manage departmental area annual budgets and monthly accounts as cost effectively as possible contributing to the efficiency of the contract, division and wider business. To achieve targets for organic growth contributing to successful business development.
  • Ensure that Directors Rules, Prison Service instructions and the Local Security Strategy are completed and/or reviewed by the responsible senior manager whenever there is a change or at least annually as part of a regular review process.
  • Encourage and develop a training and development culture and strategy in line with business requirements, ensuring staff are competent in their roles and developed in line with business and individual objectives.
  • Prepare and submit accurate and timely reports as required by the Director.
  • To represent the contract at both internal and external meetings, ensuring the professionalism of the contract is maintained. Maintain effective relations with the customer and external organisations and key individual local stakeholders as required.

What you’ll need to do the role

 

To carry out this role successfully, ideally you will have a minimum of 2 years relevant custodial experience. It is also essential that you have previous Line Management or People Management experience, as well as:

 

Previous experience of working within an ethnically diverse organisation.

 

The ability to think creatively and solve problems in a systematic manner.

 

Experience of managing large multi-disciplinary teams at a Senior Management level.
