Full Time, 37.5 hours per week. M-F 0800-1600 hours and must be flexible for an on-call rota every 1 in 4 weeks.

 

Salary £28,066.80 - £30,532.63 depending on experience, plus on-call allowance, plus Serco benefits.

 

Main Purpose:

 

Here at Serco, we have an exciting opportunity to join our team.  The main purpose of this position is to provide specialist technical advice, support, and assistance to other Estates personnel and participate in the on-call rota providing out of hours cover.  To carry out multi skilled work maintenance, servicing, repairs, and improvement across Hospital within the specialist field.

 

Undertakes planned maintenance and reactive repairs, working from training programmes, work procedures and operational manuals, recording and logging readings, carrying out basic adjustments and repairs with careful documentation and recording on service sheets and work orders.

 

Main Accountabilities: 

 

  • To work in accordance with the requirements of Health Technical Memorandums (HTMs), SHTM’s and other applicable legislation under the guidance of supervisors, technicians, and craftsmen.
  • To be prepared to work in hazardous areas taking all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment.
  • To actively participate in the operation and control of engineering planned preventative maintenance schemes.
  • Actively participate in the operation of the CAFM labour control by completion of paperwork for all work orders, service sheets and logbooks or electronic logger.
  • Undertake essential repair works and general maintenance activities at the request of the Maintenance Officer.
  • To liaise with Maintenance Officer regarding plant or equipment failures and observations.
  • Assist technicians and craftsmen with technical maintenance diagnostic fault finding and repair.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspections and tasks unsupervised, where considered safe and appropriate. 
  • Complete all report sheets, work orders, logbooks, and test certificates as necessary.
  • To follow planned maintenance schedules.
  • To actively participate in the operation of planned preventative maintenance (ppm)
  • Operates within constraints of permit to work systems.
  • Immediately notifies the Maintenance Officer of any deviation from the regulations.
  • Follows guidance as laid down operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Uses all relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works.
  • Ensure that works are completed or communicated.
  • Ensuring that information regarding works not completed or works required are conveyed to other members of staff.

  • Carry out multi disciplined Planned and Reactive maintenance on plant, equipment, and the building infrastructure, as requested by maintenance officers.
  • Learning the uses of different types of wood and choosing the right material for the job
  • Understanding technical drawings and how your work will fit within the building.
  • Conducting site surveys
  • Creating design drawings, alongside sketches of the work needed and the specifications.
  • Measuring and marking wood according to technical designs
  • Cutting wood on machines or by hand
  • Working with suppliers and sub-contractors
  • Producing cutting lists
  • Estimating the materials needed for a job.
  • Drafting job briefs
  • Using a range of equipment from traditional tools to state-of-the-art computerised cutting equipment and hi-tech drawing and design software
  • Managing production schedules and budgets
  • Conducting quality checks
  • Producing progress reports for senior managers
  • Undertaking building fabric repair and installation in accordance with maintenance/ installation instructions and the appropriate regulations and procedures with understanding of the operation and risks associated with the equipment and the possible impact of failure on critical areas.
  • Liaise with maintenance officers regarding plant or equipment failures. Report any deviation from the regulations, procedures or unsafe conditions to maintenance officer and identify and request materials and/ or services as necessary.
  • Accurately complete all required documentation including report sheets, work orders and test certificates.

 

Systems and Equipment Equipment

 

  • Requires understanding and use the various hand and electrical tools required to carry out their day-to-day duties
  • Able to inspect and use all testing tools and equipment required for complex systems and specialised services.
  • Understand and use computer-based management systems and basic office computer equipment.

  • Complete all records of training and work tasks.
  • Undertake and record all results of audit/surveys undertaken.

Assignment and review of works

 

  •  
  • Prioritise workload within criteria set by the Maintenance Officers and working schedules.
  • Requires working independently without routine supervision on problem solving faults on plant equipment and engineering services.
  • Support and guidance available from Technicians and Senior Estates staff daily.

 

Communication and working relationships.

 

  • Reports to the Maintenance Officer verbally and in writing any requirements for recording or communicating maintenance information.
  • Communicates with NHSGGC staff daily and when required with patients and visitors on any operational health and safety matter associated with a task being undertaken,

 

    Physical/Mental demands of the job working conditions.

  • Postholder will be perform routine tasks.
  • Occasional requirement to work in confined spaces due to access issue.
  • Many tasks require physical effort in their completion.
  • Good dexterity required.
  • Some requirements to use ladders and powered access lifting equipment e.g. cherry pickers.
  • Some requirements for lifting of heavy equipment e.g. boiler casing, manhole covers.

  • Can be exposed to unpleasant working environment e.g. Sewage, other bodily fluids, noxious fumes.
  • Changing temperatures of working environment
  • Good general level of awareness in a potentially dangerous working environment
  • General awareness required throughout majority of the shift.
  • Occasional requirement for intermediate level of concentration
  • Maybe interrupted during duties to attend emergencies.
