Here at Serco, we’re looking for a Forensic Psychologist to join our innovative psychological services team at HMP Doncaster. HMP Doncaster is a Category B male establishment prison based in South Yorkshire. The operational capacity is 1145 prisoners who are serving a range of sentences including trial, remand, those awaiting sentence and convicted men serving up to life in prison. Joining our onsite team at this Category B prison, you’ll play a key role in delivering Psychological Services to our prisoners.

 

You will be responsible for the line management of Forensic Psychologists in Training, ensuring that all our work adheres to a code of conduct compliance and BPS guidelines. Your role will also be:

 

  • To complete psychological assessments of prisoners including HCR-20, RSVP, SARA, and WAIS and be a professional witness within Parole hearings when requested.
  • To undertake any relevant psychological assessments of prisoners and individual work linked to safer custody. You may also be involved in the management, and oversight of intervention delivery.
  • To support with the delivery of accredited programmes in the form of supervision and clinical decision making.
  • To provide a consultancy role to staff. This work will vary but will likely include work linked to the OPD pathway through OMiC, and consultancy in to Safer Custody.
  • To develop and deliver relevant and required training packages to staff.

 

This is a role that offers variety and contributes enormously to the important work of reintegrating offenders back into society.

 

What you’ll need to do the role:

 

First and foremost, you will have experience of working with offenders and with carrying out assessments and interventions with a forensic population. We’d also like you to hold:

 

  • HCPC registration (or be within six months of obtaining it)
  • A Stage 2 Diploma in Forensic Psychology with the BPS OR hold a Stage 1 and have completed the majority of Stage 2
  • If you are a Forensic Psychologist in Training on the Doctorate route you must have completed all practitioner placements and be within six months of becoming registered with the HCPC.

 

You’ll have knowledge in psychological theory regarding treatment of violent and sexual offending and be familiar with ‘what works’ literature and of a range of psychotherapeutic treatment approaches.

 

Comfortable completing parole reports and carrying out assessments such as WAIS, HCR-20, RSVP and SARA.  You’ll also be able to work in a multi-disciplinary way and bring a collaborative approach to your work with your team and with the prisoners.
