Here at Serco, we are looking for a Business Support Administrator to join us at Serco Rail Technical Services (SRTS), based in Derby. You’ll provide effective administrative support to the whole SRTS business. 

 

As Business Support Administrator you’ll provide essential administrative and operational support across all teams within the business. This role underpins the smooth delivery of engineering, consultancy, and training services by managing processes, coordinating communications, and supporting compliance, finance, and resource planning activities. 
You’ll ensure back-office efficiency that enables frontline teams to focus on delivery and safety-critical operations. You’ll play a key part in maintaining business continuity, supporting decision-making, and contributing to organisational goals.

 

A requirement of this role will be to undertake a recognised Apprenticeship, this will be provided by Serco and expected to be completed during working hours. 

 

There is the opportunity with this role, should the successful candidate wish, to take on and contribute to marketing activities for the business. This will be discussed at interview stage.  

 


You’ll be entrusted to:
•    Manage office systems, processes, and documents to support daily operations.
•    Act as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including colleagues, customers, visitors, suppliers and students, handling queries professionally and efficiently.
•    Deliver high levels of customer service at all times, greet visitors and manage day to day emails and telephone enquiries. 
•    Maintain accurate records, databases, and filing systems, both physical and digital.
•    Organise meetings, appointments, and events, where required. 
•    Prepare reports, presentations, and other documentation as required by the senior management team. 
•    Monitor and order office supplies, equipment and work wear/PPE to ensure smooth operations.
•    Assist with invoicing, budget tracking, and basic bookkeeping tasks.
•    Ensure compliance with company policies, GDPR, and health and safety regulations.

 


Does this sound like you?

You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have…
•    5 GCSE (A-C or 4 or above)
•    Good IT skills with particular emphasis on Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
•    Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
•    Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across a number of work streams
•    Confident to communicate through a variety of media with internal and external stakeholders
•    High attention to detail
•    Strong organisational skills
•    Experience in an administrative or business support role would be advantageous 
•    Experience or knowledge of marketing activities is desirable, but is not essential for this role
