About the role
As Head of Data Management & Insight, you will lead the AFRS Insight Hub, driving the design and implementation of data analytics and reporting solutions that deliver meaningful insight and value to the organisation. Working closely with senior leaders and stakeholders, you'll translate business needs into data-driven strategies that support recruitment and performance optimisation.
You’ll provide strategic leadership across MI, BI, and analytics, ensuring data is managed as a valuable asset while supporting robust governance frameworks. With a focus on innovation, you’ll establish functional roadmaps, develop self-service reporting capabilities, and create high-quality data solutions that inform operational, contractual, and strategic decision-making across AFRS and its partners.
Key Accountabilities
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders to shape data requirements and deliver insight that supports business direction and decision-making.
- Lead the development of intuitive dashboards, reports, and analytical models to provide actionable insight, using iterative engagement with business teams.
- Evaluate and recommend the most effective and cost-efficient approach to reporting and analytics delivery, including internal resources or third-party support.
- Promote self-service reporting by coaching stakeholders and enhancing organisational data literacy and capability.
- Collaborate with IT, digital, and business teams to ensure reporting solutions are aligned with technical strategy and business needs.
- Continuously improve data reporting tools and performance through optimisation, innovation, and usage analysis.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of clear, business-friendly documentation, including data models, glossaries, and report catalogues.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience (6+ years) in designing and delivering BI and analytics solutions that drive measurable business value across both corporate and operational functions.
- Strong technical expertise in Microsoft BI tools (Power BI, SQL SSRS, Excel, Flow); experience with other platforms such as Qlik, Domo, or Tableau is advantageous.
- Skilled in translating complex business requirements into effective technical solutions, with a track record of trusted stakeholder engagement and collaborative delivery.
- Strong knowledge of data management disciplines, including data quality, master data, and – ideally – advanced analytics or data science applications.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience building productive relationships across internal teams, senior stakeholders, and external partners.
- Experience working with 3rd-party vendors and offshore delivery teams, particularly in design, development, and support roles.
- Able to balance adherence to industry standards with pragmatic decision-making, proposing alternative approaches when they better meet business needs.
