IT Operations Specialist- Infrastructure

£40,000- £45,000 per annum plus benefits
We are seeking an experienced and versatile IT Operations Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and will play a critical role in supporting Caledonian sleepers IT infrastructure, managing help desk operations, and strengthening our cybersecurity measures.
Reporting directly to the Head of IT, the IT Operations specialist will work as part of a small well-rounded team supporting the business. The IT Operations specialist Lead will also work with our Managed Service Provider to support the organisations IT Infrastructure. The role will require the development of key stakeholder relationships with both internal colleagues and external suppliers.
Main Accountabilities:
Infrastructure Management
- Monitor and look for opportunities to optimise the company’s IT infrastructure, including networks, and cloud services.
- Oversee system performance, ensure high availability, scalability and proactively address potential issues.
- Support in the Design, Deployment, configuration, and maintenance of hardware, software, and network systems developments.
Help Desk Support
- Oversee the day-to-day outsourced IT support function, ensuring timely resolutions and support in technical resolutions.
- Provide technical support to employees, troubleshoot hardware and software problems, and escalate complex issues as necessary.
- Take ownership of IT assets ensuring they are managed following the organisational asset management policy.
- Document service requests, processes, changes, and technical troubleshooting procedures.
Cybersecurity
- Implement and maintain cybersecurity best practices to protect company assets and data.
- Provide security advice to the organisation with regards to the IT infrastructure.
- Working with the third-party support partner to monitor and mitigate security incidents and alerts, including malware infections, phishing attacks, and unauthorized access attempts.
- Manage access controls, firewalls, and endpoint security solutions.
- Stay updated on emerging security threats and recommend proactive measures to mitigate risks, including internal communications to notify the organisations of known risks.
Innovation and Technology trends
- Stay abreast of the latest technology trends
- Provide security advice to the organisations with regards to the IT infrastructure.
- Working with the third-party support partner to monitor and mitigate security incidents and alerts, including malware infections, phishing attacks, and unauthorized access attempts.
What you’ll need to do the role:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in IT operations, including infrastructure management, help desk support, and cybersecurity.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in managing M365 and Windows systems.
- Experience with Meraki network equipment and Azure cloud platform.
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity principles, tools, and frameworks (e.g., Cyber Essentials plus, NIST, CIS, ISO 27001).
- Familiarity with endpoint management tools (e.g., SCCM, Intune).
- Knowledge of Azure Virtual Desktop.

Desirable Qualifications
